All it means is that the Moon won’t make another major aspect – conjunctions, sextiles, trines, squares or oppositions – to any other planet (including the outers, but not asteroids) before she leaves her current sign.

Simple enough, right?

What this really means is that the Moon is essentially free-sailing for the rest of that sign, without any other planetary influence to shape or redirect her behaviour.

The thing is, the Moon – like most mothers – doesn’t particularly enjoy having nothing to do. When she’s busy checking in on everyone, she feels useful… even when those interactions are a bit challenging.

So during a void of course Moon, you might find yourself feeling a little aimless. Maybe even a bit useless. Things can go oddly quiet – like those moments just before a storm, when everything feels a little… expectant. At the same time, it’s also when you can really tap into the pure energy of the sign the Moon is in.

And that’s where the nuance comes in.

A Pisces Moon? You’re probably drifting, daydreaming, and not getting a whole lot done – and that’s entirely on brand.

A Taurus Moon? You might actually enjoy the pause, settling into the moment and making the most of it. Alternatively, you could be eating the feelings you can’t verbalise.

An Aries Moon? Well… you might go looking for something to do. Or someone to spar with. Or even light a metaphorical fire just to see what happens.

The Moon isn’t especially comfortable in Capricorn or Scorpio, so a void Moon here is more likely to bring out the shadow side of those signs. (Speaking from experience, one Scorpio VOC had me disappearing down a rabbit hole of wildly elaborate paranoid scenarios… but let’s not dwell on that.)

You get the idea.

In practical terms, void of course Moons tend to favour:

finishing things rather than starting them

planning and organising

editing rather than creating

reviewing decisions rather than committing to them

decluttering rather than accumulating

keeping appointments rather than making them

Which, now that I think about it, sounds suspiciously like the advice we give during a retrograde…

And that brings me to the natal Moon.

If your Moon is void of course in your birth chart, does that make you inherently aimless? Or does it mean your Moon expresses the sign it’s in with uninterrupted purity? Generally, it’s a combination of both – sometimes simultaneously.

In most cases (though not always), your Moon will still have aspects – when we’re talking about the Moon, we use wider orbs—but there may be no more applying aspects.

How do you tell? Easy enough—look for any planet at a later degree than your Moon. If there is one, and it falls in a sign that connects to your Moon (same sign, or one that trines, sextiles, squares or opposes it), then your Moon isn’t void of course.

Because, as I said, the Moon likes to have something to tend to – and when she’s void, she simply gets on with getting on.

My own Moon sits at 27° Pisces, and it’s void.

On her way there, she’s already done quite a bit – trining Mars, conjunct Mercury, conjunct the Ascendant, opposing Pluto, conjunct the Sun, opposing Uranus, trining Jupiter and Neptune. By the time she reaches that late degree, there’s nothing left between her and the end of Pisces. She’s free to be entirely, unapologetically Piscean.

And honestly? I think that suits her. In the same way that Mercury retrograde often feels quite at home in Pisces.

I don’t tend to notice void of course periods all that much – just as I rarely feel Mercury retrograde. I’d be curious to know if others with a VOC Moon feel the same.

Traditionally, a void Moon was seen as a bit… lacking. Without support. Without purpose.

I don’t entirely agree.

The Moon is a translator of light – she carries the energy of every planet she’s interacted with as she moves through the sign. By the time she goes void, she’s already gathered all of that. She’s not empty… she’s complete.

That said, I do think I benefit from having a late-degree Moon in a sign that’s comfortable with that kind of drifting, boundary-blurring energy. If your Moon is in a sign that prefers structure or direction, your experience of a void Moon may feel very different – and that’s perfectly fine.

But here’s the thing – the Moon goes void every few days. Sometimes it’s only for a couple of minutes, sometimes a few hours, sometimes longer. There will always be moments when you feel more inclined to faff about than push forward.

And that’s ok.

When that happens, take a moment. Look at the sign the Moon is in. Work with that energy rather than against it.

Just… maybe don’t start anything new. Not yet.

Thanks for reading Whale Bay Astrology! planets or chart points in Sagittarius, Uranus will at some point during this transit oppose these.

If you have planets or chart points in Pisces or Virgo, Uranus will at some point or chart points in Aries or Leo, Uranus will at some point during this transit sextile these.

What does this mean? With thanks and full credit to Bernadette Brady’s The Eagle and the Lark (because she says it best):

When Uranus is conjunct a planet or chart point, his energy is fused with that planet. He takes over that planet. His energy is stronger than the planet he is invading.

When Uranus is opposing a planet or chart point, “someone or something “out there” is doing something to you and furthermore, it’s their fault.” A decision is necessary.

When Uranus is square a planet or chart point, there is tension and frustration- something happens which will force you “into a mode of action that you have not yet explored…results stimulate actions rather than decisions.”

When Uranus is trine a planet or chart point whatever is going to happen will happen quickly and relatively easily. Obstacles will be removed. This doesn’t mean that it will be good or painless, just that whatever is going to happen will happen quickly and relatively easily!

When Uranus is sextile a planet or chart point opportunities may arise. As there are two masculine signs involved (Gemini and Leo or Aries) something may just drop into your lap. Sounds good? Not necessarily. “If you are not in a position to take up the opportunity, then the sextile can symbolize quite a dramatic event to create the space in your life for new options.” If the door is closed, it can be blasted open.

Timing the aspects

OK, every astrologer has a different rule of thumb. Here is what I use:

I use whole signs when I look at transits. It’s a me thing and works for me. If you prefer to use Placidus or whatever house system you use for chart analysis, that’s a you thing and perfectly ok.

I use an orb of 1 degree applying and separating (before and after) with the following exceptions, unless the transiting planet applying to the aspect turns retrograde before it actually perfects the aspect. I think you feel the energy, but not the impact so much, until it comes back direct. E.g., Uranus turned retrograde in July 2009 at 26 Pisces 37’, less than a degree from my Moon at 27 Pisces 23’. I didn’t feel the impact of this conjunction until Uranus came back direct within a degree of my Moon.

I use whole signs only. E.g., Even though my natal Saturn is at 0 Aries 58’, I didn’t see the aspect as within orb until Uranus actually moved into Aries.

If Uranus stations direct or retrograde on a planet or chart point, take notice. Highlight it, put it in flashing lights or whatever. Just. Take. Notice.

Outer planets generally have 3 (sometimes more) hits at a planet. The first direct is an uncomfortable shock, the retrograde is about absorbing the lesson, and the last can be the one that jolts you into taking notice.

When?

The outer planets move slowly, but below are the milestone dates for Uranus in Gemini.

2026

Uranus will travel between 27 Taurus 57’ - 5 Gemini 42’

2027

Uranus will travel between 1 Gemini 41’ - 9 Gemini 57’

2028

Uranus will travel between 5 Gemini 56’ - 14 Gemini 14’

2029

Uranus will travel between 10 Gemini 12’ - 18 Gemini 33’

2030

Uranus will travel between 14’ Gemini 31’ - 22 Gemini 54’

2031

Uranus will travel between 19 Gemini 50’ - 27 Gemini 16’

2032

Uranus will travel between 23 Gemini 12’ - 1 Cancer 40’

2033

Uranus will travel back to 27 Gemini 36’ and leave Gemini behind on May 23, 2033.

Thanks for reading Whale Bay Astrology!
